FCA and New York Islanders Team Up for Adopt-a-Family Campaign
MINEOLA, NEW YORK, December 12, 2018 – On Tuesday, December 11, 2018, New York Islanders and their families joined Long Island nonprofit FCA at a holiday gift giveaway at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, New York. The festive event was presented in conjunction with FCA’s 12th Annual Adopt-a-Family campaign, which enables individuals, families, organizations and corporations to donate gifts to FCA families in need.
The Islanders players generously have taken it upon themselves to become involved with several families from FCA’s Family Treatment & Recovery Center and distributed presents to grateful program participants. This year’s recipients were 49 family members of children enrolled with FCA’s Lynn Vanderhall Nursery Co-Op. The nursery, located in Hempstead, provides short-term childcare and case management for parents seeking employment, education, training or support services to achieve greater self-sufficiency and economic stability.
During the gift giveaway, nursery families enjoyed tasty refreshments as they received toys, games and electronics generously donated by the Islanders. One FCA parent expressed appreciation to the agency and to the team for spreading good cheer and ensuring her loved ones have a happy holiday: “The event has been so nice and a truly charitable deed. We wish them [NY Islanders] great success and thank them for helping us and the community. The kids feel very blessed for this experience and I also feel our God has blessed them greatly.” Sofia M., Mother.
Commenting on FCA’s 2018 Adopt-a-Family campaign, FCA President/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds said, “As many of us prepare to celebrate the holidays, there are hundreds of Long Islanders who can’t afford to buy gifts for their children. Our Adopt-a-Family initiative is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and open their hearts to families in need. Many thanks to the New York Islanders for their continued generosity and for contributing to this truly important cause.”
NY Islanders Winger, Josh Bailey, spoke about the partnership with FCA, “Each one of us is happy to be here and to do this. When you see the smile on the kids’ faces and what it means to the parents, it makes it all worth it.”
FCA is a not-for-profit agency helping more than 30,000 Long Islanders each year. For more than 130 years, the organization has worked to protect and strengthen vulnerable children, seniors, families and communities on Long Island.
FCA believes in the potential of Long Island - a place where no child, senior, family or community is left to struggle alone with barriers to health care, education, employment or economic prosperity.
